TaoTao | Big Data Value Mining and Cross-industry Integration
Date: 2018-11-06

On the evening of October 16, 2018, Dr. Tao Tao visited SUSTech to give a lecture on the theme of "Big Data Value Mining and Cross-industry Integration".Dr. Tao, Deputy General Manager of China Mobile Information Technology Co., Ltd., Chairman of Touchstone Credit Services Co., Ltd., specializing in image processing, compression algorithms, simulation training systems, etc., has long been engaged in big data and cloud computing related work.

Data is a "digital image" of the physical world. Big data refers to the massive, high growth rate and diverse information assets that require new processing models to have greater decision making, insight and process optimization capabilities. Big data sprouted in the 1970s, entered the exploration period in the 1980s, and its concept matured in the 1990s. After 2000, the big data industry began a huge transformation. In 2018, the number of global Internet users will exceed 3.6 billion, which will exceed 50% of the global population. At present, various types of devices are increasingly meticulously recording various events that occur daily as data and are permanently stored. Dr. Tao used four Vs to describe the characteristics of big data: volume, variety, velocity, and value.

From the perspective of segmentation, in addition to hardware, big data technology layer and application layer market segmentation scale is large, and scenario solutions and application software are considered to be the most promising links. From the perspective of industry, finance, telecommunications, education and other fields are industries with strong demand for big data. Within these companies, marketing analysis and customer analysis are the most typical application scenarios. As big data technology continues to evolve and applications continue to deepen, the data-centric big data industry ecosystem is accelerating construction. The big data industry ecosystem includes five major roles: big data resource providers, big data infrastructure platform providers, big data analytics technology providers, industry solution providers, and big data analytics and operators. The three major providers do not own the data, and the customers and operators own the data.

Big data is now quietly changing the world and becoming a valuable asset. Big data, like oil and electricity, has become a basic resource of the information society. Telecom operators are one of the important sources of big data. Big data is not only an important means to drive operators' internal business operations, but also promote society and various industries. Big data has been used in tsunami warning, social governance, cross-selling, etc. Big data drives marketing, driving cost control, driving product and service innovation, driving innovation in drive management and decision making, and driving innovation in business models. Through the analysis of the data, government enterprises can understand the current public opinion and public opinion. Around this industry, a large wave of innovative companies has emerged.

China's big data core industry scale reached 23.4 billion yuan in 2017, and is currently in the development period, maintaining a high growth rate of around 30% in the future. The awareness of companies' deep use of data value has rapidly increased, and data asset management has become a hot concept. Internet companies are actively deploying big data. Ma Yun once said that "Alibaba is doing Taobao, Jinfu, and logistics to obtain data; Alibaba is essentially a data company." The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of big data and has introduced various policies including the "Guidelines for the Development of the Information Industry". The 19th National Congress report: "Promoting the deep integration of the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence and the real economy, at the high-end New areas of growth, such as consumption, innovation leadership, green and low carbon, shared economy, modern supply chain, and human capital services, will create new momentum."

At the end of the speech, Dr. Tao also said that there are still certain industry problems and risks in the big data industry. For example, personal information security issues are facing challenges, relevant laws and regulations are still not perfect, and data transaction business models are still unclear. In addition, the big data industry is also facing competition from other technology industries. However, we are still confident in the future of big data, and big data will play a bigger role in more aspects in the future!
